Introducing the Supported PHP Versions chart. The chart displays PHP compatibility for each WordPress version, in other words the “minimum required” and the “latest tested” version of PHP.

History

WordPress never released the official PHP versions it supported. WordPress 2.0 was the first version to officially setting the minimum PHP version required to run WordPress. There was never maximum supported PHP version, but WordPress work on the latest PHP version available at the time of each WordPress release.

When automated tests added, WordPress releases where tested against several PHP version, and we could retrieve the maximum supported PHP version.

Insights

WordPress 3.2 and WordPress 3.3 support the lowest number of PHP versions. They support only two PHP versions, PHP 5.2 and PHP 5.3.

The highest number of support PHP versions belong to WordPress 5.0 and WordPress 5.1. They support nine PHP version (5.2 – 7.3) !!!
