Total New WordPress Contributors
Data Sources
The raw data for this chart is based on the contributors list in the credit screen inside the WordPress dashboard.
Each version has it’s own contributors. For each version, we create a list of all the previous contributors for all the previous version. Then the duplicate value are removed. In the final stage, for each version we can retrieve the number of newly added contributors.
History
WordPress 3.2 introduced the credits.php screen inside WordPress dashboard, giving special credit to all the people contributed to each WordPress version. This let’s us to keep track of contributors and generate insights over time.
For an open source project it’s important to attract new contributors. The more developers contribute to the project, the better the quality of the code as each developer brings his own background and discipline to the common good.
Only three WordPress versions had more than 250 contributors. WordPress 5.5 holds the record with the highest number of new contributors – 342 people. WordPress 3.8 holds the record with the lowest number of new contributors – only 74 people.
